The World Series of Poker would not be issuing a commemorative chip to honor Wendeen Eolis if she was merely an ordinary poker player. With all her achievements as a female professional poker player, there is no denying that she has contributed a lot to the popularity of the World Series of Poker. Furthermore, her achievements are not limited to what she has attained at the World Series of Poker. She has also attained a lot in events such as the European Open No Limit. What even makes this female professional poker player more extraordinary is the fact that she still has time for her other professions, for her hobbies, and for her children.
Born on October 13, 1944, Wendeen Eolis is one busy woman. Aside from playing poker professionally, she is also engaged in other professions such as being a task force commander of the Hope's Champion 9/11 disaster counseling program and being the chairwoman of her company known as Wendeen Eolis Enterprises Inc. As a chairwoman, she is responsible for the operations of the company's two subsidiaries, namely, People Reading Strategies and Eolis International Group. Both subsidiaries are consulting firms.
Wendeen Eolis also holds jobs related to poker. She is the chairperson of the International Players Advisory Council of the World Series of Poker and the vice chairperson of the World Poker Association.
Call her superwoman if you want but despite all the jobs she holds, Wendeen Eolis still magnificently finds time to play professional poker.
She started playing poker when she was already in her forties. Some may call her a late bloomer as far as being a poker player is concerned, but when you get to learn about all her poker achievements, you would not even notice that she was a late bloomer.
Wendeen Eolis has a total of six money finishes in various events of the World Series of Poker. She is considered as the first female professional poker player to make a money finish in the tournament's main event in 1986 and is also considered as the first female professional poker player to make another money finish in 1993. Due to her notable achievements, World Series of Poker commissioner Jeffrey Pollack made her even more popular when he started calling her the "grand dame of poker."
This female professional poker player is also successful in other poker tournaments. She placed first in the European Open No Limit event, making her the first lady to ever win it. She also participated in the United States Poker Championship and the World Poker Tour.
