Playing with and Against a Poker Pocket Pair
What are poker pocket pair odds before the flop when we have such as our starting hand? Here are some analyses of having a poker pocket pair pre-flop.
When the opponent has two under-cards and we have a poker pocket pair, say a pair of QQ against a T7, we have winning odds tipped to our favor. In fact 80 percent winning odds favor the poker pocket pair and depending on their suit the under-cards actually have about 14 to 23 percent winning chances rocking them unsteadily, especially if they defeat a purpose of completing a poker straight hand.
If we have a pre-flop hand of a poker pocket pair against an over-card plus an under-card---like a pair of TT against a K9, for instance---we have the winning odds in our favor. The ratio is actually 70 to 30 in our favor. If it's a poker pocket pair of AA and the board shows some 2, 3, 4, and the next flop shows 5, we are in for a low-end straight draw.
If, say, we have a poker pocket pair and we're up against one card similar to one of our cards plus an over-card, we also have 70 percent winning odds. For instance, we have a pair of JJ and the opponent has an AJ, our poker pocket pair may tilt a bit to 60 percent winning chances if the opponent happens to build up suited middle connectors T987.
A poker pocket pair against an under-card plus a card the same with one of our cards---like in this case, a pair of AA against an AK. If we have the AK, for instance, this pre-flop hand may trick us into betting. Even if we have a suited hand of connectors, it would be difficult for us to beat a poker pocket pair AA. The odds in favor of the pocket pair is 80 to 85 percent - 80 against the suited connectors, 85 against the AK.
Let's try one example of non pairs here. Let's say, a KQ against the opponent's JT. That's 65 percent winning chances for us. But if the low cards are considerably far from the high cards with no similar suits, the winning odds of the opponent may be tipped a bit to 40 percent. And if the opponent is a shark and works the hand the 40 might even increase.
Pre-flop plays with pairs and other cards can at times be improved and tipped with some winning leverage.
